The Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band Resume

Special Honors:

  • July 2017: OSSBMB marched in the Lions Club International Parade of Nations 100th Anniversary as the official band of Ohio in Chicago, Illinois

  • October 2016: OSSBMB performs during halftime at the Capital University football game.


  • September 2015: OSSBMB marches in the Marion Popcorn Parade. Receives trophy for the Best in Show Crowd Pleaser Award.

  • May 2015: The Band marches in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C.

  • February 2015: Two OSSBMB members become the first students in school history to compete in the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Competition. Both students receive superior ratings.


  • March 2014: Two high school OSSBMB students participated in the Otterbein College High School Honor Band.

  • October 2013: American Printing House for the Blind (APH) Creative Use of Braille Award presented to the OSSBMB for their signature drill “Script Braille Ohio” performed during every half-time show.



  • February 2013-15: Two OSSBMB students participated each year in Ohio State University Middle School Honor Band Festivals.

  • October 2012: OSSBMB Performed their half-time show at Ohio Stadium in the Buckeye Invitational as the feature band right before The Ohio State University Marching Band performed their half-time show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igThhNka5bk


  • February 2012: Three OSSBMB students participated in the first ever Ohio State University Middle School Honor Band Festival. 



  • July 2011: OSSBMB marched in the Lions Club International Parade in Seattle, Washington.

  • October 2010: National Citation from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity awarded to OSSBMB for these significant contributions to the cause of music in America: providing unparalleled experience to musical students; serving as an example to others; bestowing confidence, trust and a musical bond among their peers; sharing their gift and talents in the 2010 Rose Parade; and creating new standards of excellence for persons with disabilities.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzJxRuABgEw&safe=active


  • January 2010: OSSBMB was the first and only blind marching band to make history and march in the  Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California

  • December 2009: The Accessibility and Disability Commission of the City of Pasadena Applauds the Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band for being the first marching band of people with disabilities to participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade.   …recognition is hereby given to the Band’s achievement for advancing the rights of people with disabilities to participate in all aspects of the community.



  • September 2008: The band performed at an Ohio State University Marching Band “Skull Session”

  • August 2007: The OSSBMB has been the lead band in the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival parade and every year since.

  • 2006: OSSBMB has been marching in the Circleville Pumpkin Show every year since.


  • 2005: The Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band was founded to perform during half-time at an Ohio School for the Deaf football game.
